as i write this, rob is on his way to long beach to hang out with his (our) friend gary for the day.

i let him take my car since his is still in no condition to drive that distance.

which means i'm pretty much stuck at home for the day. ah, the sacrifices i make. ... no one can ever say i don't love my boyfriend. *g*

anyway, i've got a lot to do around the house, so i'm actually excited about the opportunity to get it all done. not to mention, if i really wanted or needed to leave the house, my mom is but a phone call away.

so yeah, my list of things to do today goes something like this:

- finish up laundry, 3 loads

- dust the bedroom, back living room, dining room, and hallway shelves

- wet vac the hardwood floors

- water the plants

- empty out my filing cabinet of old papers

- fill my filing cabinet with new papers

with the exception of the last two ``things to do,`` each one should run me an hour or less. what makes the last two things different is the excessive amount of paperwork involved.

you see, since the age of fifteen when my mom opened up a checking account for me, i've been in paper-saver mode.

every account statement, credit card statement, manual or instruction booklet, even every damn receipt i've ever collected has been saved, and subsequently stuffed, into that filing cabinet. considering i have four bank accounts, at one time had twenty-seven different credit cards, have bought a lot of household appliances and electronic gear, and collect on average three receipts a day, you can see why the cabinet needs to be emptied.

i've got all my more current papers in a box in my bedroom, and i'm tired of it being there. so into the cabinet those papers go once the old ones are tossed.

(by the way, my mom being an accountant is the main reason for all of the paper pileup. better safe than sorry and all that.)

i'm probably the most `prepared` twenty-two year old this side of the mississippi. i mean, not many people can say they have damn near every receipt from every purchase they've ever made.

but after today those receipts and statements will be nothing more than shredded confetti. i'm keeping the manuals, of course. and the receipts for the big stuff. but the receipt for the dvd i bought at sam goody back in '99 can go. *l*

it feels liberating in an odd way. today i'm throwing out 80% of the paper trail that has followed me since 1995.

wow.

so hey, where are those enron folks and high up business exec types when you need them? a girl can't be expected to do this kind of shredding alone...

any thoughts? (0)
